REQUIREMENTS

Education: Master’s Degree Certification and/or licensure: South Dakota teacher certificate with an endorsement as school psychologist.

 

Experience Desired: Successful internship in school psychology

 

Physical: Constant hearing, hand-eye and mind-eye coordination; frequent repetitive motions with wrists, scheduling, speaking, walking, talking and writing are required. A valid South Dakota driver’s license and the ability to drive a car.

 

Other: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership and conflict management. Competence in completing assessments, developing interventions and consulting with others. Adhere to District’s Policies and Procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES       

  1. Complies with all state laws, administrative rules and district policies.
  2. Demonstrate assessment and observation skills including interviewing, assessing, data interpretation, and functional skills in relation to the academic environment.
  3. Collaborates with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop and implement effective academic and behavior plans that support individual student success.
  4. Administers psychological and/or behavioral assessments to provide information about academic levels, cognitive potential, social and behavioral problems and needs, in accordance with special education policies and procedures. Interprets assessment results and reports the findings.
  5. Assists in identifying individual needs of students within the special education criteria, guidelines, and settings.
  6. Works with identified students who have severe behavior/emotional problems, and whose needs cannot be met through the general education program.
  7. Provides counseling, social skills training, behavior management and other interventions.
  8. Assesses diverse learning needs and works directly with students, parents, and school staff members to intervene in a wide range of personal, social and mental health concerns.
  9. Acts as a resource for school personnel in the provision of a variety of services ranging from offering classroom management techniques, to assisting on projects or programs which benefit the district as a whole.
  10. Builds good interpersonal relationships and establishes positive rapport with students, colleagues, administrators and parents.
  11. Assists the administration with crisis strategies to ensure that the well-being of district students and employees are maintained.
  12. Cooperates with various agencies of the community by providing information or professional testimony which relates to educational issues or students in general, but which is not in conflict with the code of ethics for professional psychologists.
  13. Participates as an active member of building-level problem-solving teams, Special Education meetings, and Title I program initiatives. Participates in parent meetings as appropriate.
  14. Seeks out and participates in professional growth activities. Conducts research to generate new knowledge to improve learning and behavior for students.
  15. Provides appropriate and necessary in-service training for special education and general education teachers, para-professionals, and school administrators.
  16. Practices all ethical and legal standards of the psychology profession.
  17. Understands and practices confidentiality with regard to the requirements set forth in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
  18. Promotes a positive image of the West Central School District.
  19. Performs other such duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or Director of Special Services.
