REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred) in applied behavioral sciences, psychology, special education, or mental health related fields.
Experience Desired: Three (3) years successful experience teaching special education or providing related special education services to include behavioral services.
Physical: Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination. Frequent walking, keyboarding, speaking, writing, bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, sitting, reaching, stooping, and turning. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Other: Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills. Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, email, and internet. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and keep information confidential. Adhere to District’s Policies and Procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
- Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments and develop behavior intervention plans and monitor the students and the plans for effectiveness. Uses data to make informed decisions.
- Support de-escalation for students in crisis (including observing, modeling de-escalation and prevention for staff)
- Support check-in/check-out for students on behavior plans
- Lead and/or assist social skills/coping skills groups
- Participate in IEP, 504, and Teacher Assistance Team meetings at the elementary, middle school & high school levels
- Presents information on various topics related to area of professional expertise in behavior management for the purpose of communicating information to teachers, administrators, parents, support staff, students, etc.
- Participates in PBIS and supports implementation of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 (individual, small group, classroom level)
- Plans and designs instruction; selects research-based strategies, methods, activities, and materials specific to content that is differentiated for diverse learners.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior conducive to a good learning environment.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and technology appropriate to the physical limitations of the facilities and the needs and capabilities of the students.
- Diagnoses the learning abilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
- Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aides and/or volunteers and evaluates their job performance as required.
- Maintains professional relationships with fellow teachers, administration, parents, and students.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Monitors students during recess, lunchroom, study halls, and in hallways.
- Supervises extra-curricular activities as assigned.
- Strives to help promote safety, health, and comfort of all students within the school district.
- Promotes a positive image of the West Central School District.
- Other duties as required by the school board, administration or state law.
A post-offer criminal background check is required.
