REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Diploma or GED required, AND 48 credit hours of post-secondary schooling, OR Obtained an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree or higher, OR Passing test results from the State of South Dakota ParaPro Praxis exam.

 

Experience Desired: Some experience working with children.

 

Physical: Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, walking, and standing. Frequent bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, stooping, turning, and crouching and repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Ability to lift up to 35 lbs intermittently. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

 

Other: Ability to work cooperatively and congenially with others, to follow written and verbal directions. Good organizational skills preferred. Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, email, and internet. Valid, current Driver’s License. Ability to keep student information confidential. Must have ability to establish good rapport with administrators, staff, students and the public. Adhere to District’s Policies and Procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES     

  1. Assist in providing instruction to students in the special education program.
  2. Supervision of students as directed by the Special Services Director and Building Principals.
  3. Collaborate/consult with Special Education staff about student’s individual education plan needs.
  4. Modify/adapt materials and instructional methods as needed and appropriate.
  5. Keeps records of student performance as directed.
  6. Provide instruction support to students.
  7. Assist students with physical limitations.
  8. Assist as needed with student personal hygiene.
  9. Supervise students on a one on one basis or in a group basis setting.
  10. Assist professional staff in carrying out individual behavior plans.
  11. Transports students as required by the district.
  12. Strives to help promote safety, health, and comfort of all students within the school district.
  13. Promotes a positive image of the West Central School District.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

A post-offer criminal background check is required.

This job performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions as outlined in District policy and/or procedure.
