REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Current, valid South Dakota Registered Nurse License.
Experience Desired: One to three years’ experience in the health care field, preferably in community health, school nursing, or pediatrics.
Physical: Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, walking, and standing. Frequent bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, stooping, turning, and crouching. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs intermittently. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Other: Excellent written and verbal communication, time management, and problem solving skills. Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, email and internet. Ability to provide physical assessment and CPR. Ability to work modified assignments as necessary. Adhere to District’s Policies and Procedures. Ability to keep information confidential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
- Complies with all state laws, administrative rules and District policies.
- Consults with administrators to determine goals and services; complying with District policy and procedures.
- Serves as a team member in identifying, evaluating, and providing services for children.
- Collects information about the health and developmental status of students in a systematic and continuous matter and determines nursing diagnosis.
- Develops and maintains a nursing care plan with goals and interventions unique to student needs.
- Serves as a liaison between school, community health and welfare agencies, and medical profession.
- Focuses on prevention of illness, disability and early detection and correction of health problems.
- Develops and maintains student health records.
- Coordinates building health screenings and physical exams.
- Facilitates referral of students and families to appropriate District and community services.
- Administers medications, treatments, and procedures as directed by physicians and District policy.
- Trains and supervises nursing assistants and staff in delegated tasks.
- Provides health education for students, staff, and parents/guardians.
- Understands and practices confidentiality with regard to the requirements set forth in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Promotes a positive image of the West Central School District.
- Performs other such duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or Director of Special Services.
A post-offer criminal background check is required.
